Jasper National Park Days 1 & 2

Upon our arrival yesterday afternoon we went to the Park Visitor Center to discover that 2 “natural” events happened this week that will affect our plans.  On Aug. 7, a mudslide closed the road to Maligne Lake, and yesterday morning, a huge chunk of Angel Glacier (the Ghost Glacier) broke off falling into Cavell Lake and causing a mini-tsunami which flooded the surrounding area including the parking lot.  Thus the road to Mt. Edith Cavell is closed – site of one of our favorite hikes into heather filled meadows with beautiful views of what was Angel Glacier.

Today is sunny and beautiful.  We traveled west to Mt. Robson in British Columbia.  We feel so fortunate to have seen the peak as it is in clouds over 1/3-1/2 of the time.  It is the highest peak in Canada.

A mother elk and her calf greeted us in our campsite this morning.Image
